The State High School Journalist of the Year
The Oregon High School Journalist of the Year is awarded every spring (approximately March 1) by the OJEA and NWSP. The award comes with the Alyce Sheetz Memorial Scholarship for $1,000. Runners-up receive a scholarship of $500. The winner is then entered in the National High School Journalist of the Year competition through JEA. Students interested in applying should follow the rules and requirements posted at the JEA website (link). The winner is selected by the OJEA Board of Directors, representatives from NWSP and the State JEA Director. In the event that a member of the board has a student entered in competition, the State Director can substitute an at-large Oregon adviser or retired adviser on the panel.
